Medicare has four different parts: Medicare Part A, Part B, Part C, and Part D. Medicare Part A helps you cover inpatient care in hospitals, skilled nursing facility care, hospice care, and home health care. Medicare Part B helps you cover outpatient care, home health care, durable medical equipment expenses, some preventive expenses and services from doctors and other health providers. Medicare Part C provides all benefits and services provided under Part A and Part B. In addition, Part C usually includes Part D, which is a prescription drug coverage that helps you pay for your prescription drug costs.
There is two major options for Medicare. They are Original Medicare and Medicare Advantage Plan. Original Medicare includes Part A and/or Part B; Whereas Medicare Advantage Plan includes Part C and Part D in most cases. You may want to purchase Part D, prescription drug coverage, for Original Medicare plan depending on your needs. In addition, you may want to purchase a Medicare Supplemental Insurance, (Medigap), to fill the gap in Original Medicare coverage.
